Registered well drillers, pump installers and certified water labs in Michigan

Michigan's registered water well drilling contractors and pump installers, grouped by the county on EGLE's directory, plus labs EGLE has certified to test drinking water. Filter by county or search by name.

How Michigan registers well contractors and certifies labs

• Annual registration: EGLE registers water well drilling contractors, dewatering contractors, limited well drilling contractors, pump installers and well drilling rigs every year under Part 127 of the Public Health Code and the Michigan Water Well Construction and Pump Installation Code.¹
• Registrations expire April 30. Contractors who haven't renewed by May 1 can't do any well drilling or pump installation work until they do.¹ The directory we used covers May 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027.²
• Check enforcement actions. EGLE's directory says: "Please check the administrative enforcement actions page before hiring a contractor."²
• Labs: EGLE's laboratory certification program lists labs certified to test drinking water for the analytes specified, by category (microbiology, chemistry, lead and copper, radiological, PFAS).³

Check a registration yourself

• Enforcement: EGLE's administrative enforcement actions against well contractors.
• Labs: EGLE's certified laboratory lists. EGLE's own lab in Lansing is on the list, at (517) 335-8184.³

The list

Our driller list is EGLE's 2027 directory as printed on May 1, 2026 (a copy posted by LMAS District Health Department), so registrations added or dropped since then won't show here. Check EGLE's live directory. Several people registered under the same business are combined into one row, with all their registration numbers. Many certified labs are city water plant labs, so call to ask whether they take private well samples.
